House Advantages / Disadvantages

Den of Vipers: This house has a long history of shady dealings, which secretive and often immoral tools developed over centuries of spying and underhanded action. Actions which rely upon treachery in another faction or other unsavoriness are more likely to succeed, and the house has a network of agents already in place for many missions that they can call upon. If a member of a house with this advantage wishes to engage in underhanded actions, this House advantage allows them to backdate some of those actions to represent the foresight and planning (even when no one knows what is being planned!) the house is famous for. Low Expections: This house has a reputation for cruelty, decadence, and dishonor - but as a consequence, they receive significantly reduced Loyalty and Popularity penalties for such actions, usually a third as much for Loyalty and half as much for Popularity. (Though final values are situational and subject to staff oversight.) They also do not receive Popularity penalties for Authoritarian or Oppressive governments, as it is expected they behave so.
Martial Culture: A tradition of military training among the nobility of this house means that subordinate officers are more likely to be competent and well trained, increasing the general effectiveness of soldiers under their command and the likely success of missions.
Warlike People: The subjects of this house are military-minded, either because of a strong militia tradition (such as among House Hawkwood) or because of an established program of veterancy (such as the Estancia of the Hazat). Consequently, militia of this house are better trained and less likely to break than in other houses, allowing them to be used with less support and giving them almost the effectiveness of armsmen in the field.
Faithful Masses: The subjects of this house are extraordinarly devout, which means that when supported by the Church, soldiers under this house's command are unlikely to break.
Merchant Princes: This house has a long history with trade, and it is as adept in the boardroom as it is in court. Its ventures seem to profit, and - because of its friendly relations with traders - its markets boom. The general business acumen of the house results in an 'Other' income equal to ten percent of the base income of a fief and gives them an advantage in off-camera business enterprises.
Libertine: This house has long been associated with liberal and Republican ideas, and thus does not take loyalty penalties for liberal or Republican governments and reduces penalties associated with liberal acts.
Politicos: Experience in politics and a long tradition of subverting other houses gives this house an advantage when entering political conflicts and adjudicating off-world political balances.
High Expectations: This house is held to high standards - very high standards, and with the spotlight on them they receive substantially higher penalties for cruelty or dishonor, up to twice as much for Loyalty and half again for Popularity.
Strict Training: This house's military is kept to exacting protocols, which means that lost troops take longer to train so that their high training standards are met. Replacing troops takes half again as long as normal.
Sons of the Church: This house has a long relationship with the Church, and are considered the Patriarch's most faithful sons - but consequently, rumors of heresy or unfaithfulness strike scions of the house harder. Church censure and other religious penalties affect Popularity by up to twice the severity of the ordinary penalty and Loyalty by half again.
Conservative: This house is very traditionalist, even hidebound - and so victories and advances won through unconventional means count for less among the nobility, and when unconventional plans backfire the censure is particularly harsh. When unorthodox tactics are used to secure some gain, this House sees as little as half Loyalty benefit; when those unorthodox tactics don't pan out, the House can see as much as double Loyalty penalty.
